SportAtSchool is a new initiative of the Royal Statistical Society Centre for Statistical Education (RSSCSE) and is designed to improve the statistical literacy of school-aged learners.

The AtSchool team at the RSSCSE will collect and use the sport-related data that learners produce and will create free learning and teaching cross-curricular resources and continuing professional development (CPD) material.

As well as providing access to national databases of sporting measurements, from which registered schools are able to take samples, a wide range of free learning and teaching resources are being created for use in subjects across the national curriculum.

Under the SportAtSchool theme we have produced web pages for RowingAtSchool and CyclingAtSchool and plan projects that will include collecting data for AthleticsAtSchool, FootballAtSchool, NetballAtSchool and RugbyAtSchool.

Some key activities for learners and teachers include:

 *   sharing your data with others;
 *   helping with the RSSCSE Real Data for Fitness campaign;
 *   contributing learning & teaching resources to the SportAtSchool project;
 *   comparing your schools’ sporting activities with others;
 *   joining school, regional and national case studies;
 *   attending CPD workshops on the use of the SportAtSchool resources;
 *   receiving cross-curricular resources for use in the classroom.

Sporting activities are inclusive and suitable for learners of all ages. They can improve the health, wellbeing and fitness of pupils and teachers – this project connects sports, health and statistical literacy and fits well with the Healthy Schools, Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Themes.
